Scared of myself...

This years word for myself was considerate...

I didn't actually realise what that would mean when I chose it, I thought it meant that I would have to be kinder to myself , stop beating myself up for things I couldn't control but what has actually happened is that I've been tougher on myself... tougher on the things that I can control, the things I can change and I've made myself do things that I wouldn't have done before. I'm being considerate to what I actually want to do and rather than just thinking about it, I've worked past my fears and I've done it. Today I am wearing a dress to work... and it's the third day that 'I've flashed my legs' (thanks male colleague) this week. Get me.

I've made myself face my insecurities, I've made myself write a book, I've challenged my 'I can'ts' with 'I can's' and heck, so far this year I've done all right...

But I haven't been very considerate of my blog and it's future.
Last week I had a post with no comments on, and I'm not going to lie,
I cried a little.
It's pathetic, I know, I still have more posts without comments then I have ones with them, but my blog is me, and it hurt my feelings a little.
I was having the worst week at work
(to say I was in a flap would be an understatement)
and I hadn't realised that I needed my blog and the interaction so much until it wasn't there.

The thing with blogs is that even if your blog stays the same, things change around you... you get more followers, you lose some followers, you get more hits, you get less... everything will change no matter what you do. And I've been pretty stubborn about evolving with it, I guess I like to dig my heels in about change as much as the next person (C) haha.

Anyway, this week I've been trying to find new blogs and I also reread a lot of posts in Kat's Green Room on Rock n Roll Bride... Have I ever told you that Kat is my one of my blogging heros? She is and so is her secret weapon Gareth...
they love what they do and in doing so, they do it so very, very well.
That is what I want to do. I want to love what I do and do it so very, very well.

And I realised, I know how to do this - two years ago I was even brave enough to write a 'Blogging Tips' post. I know how to blog and do it well... so what is happening?! What am I so worried about?
Over the past two years I've somehow lost myself and my confidence (again)
... and I've lost the contact with you.
I'm sorry about that. I really am.

The only person who's been holding me back with this blog is me.
But I think I'm ready to come back to it, to push it, to nuture it, to believe in it and myself...
to share more of me than just my photos, to write.

Side note: I actually really love writing - which I guess makes sense, as I love talking and really, I'm talking to you here through my words so a massive thank you Diana for giving me the chance to remember that with Gadchick, truly, its more than I ever expected when I bullied myself in saying yes to your offer.

Of course, I still have no idea what I'm going to do... I thought about a Toy Camera E book or course... a lot actually, I would love that - but then I let myself think
"who would want to take part in that with you? who do you think you are? there are more knowledgeable people... "
but I won't let myself do that anymore...
I am me and I know these things, I can share them. I want to share them... somehow.

I also realised that I really love blogging... so I need to incorporate that somehow, but I don't want a seperate blog... so really, I have no clue what I want to do still - perhaps a toy camera newsletter with tips? Perhaps a seperate sectionfor tips, camera over views? Perhaps maybe even earn a bit of money somehow with affordable e-courses or books... I really don't know.

But I do know that I am more than my day job... so much more, I have more to give, more to do than to be sat at this desk everyday, wishing it away until I get home and I can do things that I want to do.
The only one holding me back is me... I've been scared of myself for too long and now I need to do something about it... and keep doing it.

So here I am, being considerate to myself, letting it all out, hitting publish (eep)
and then I am going to do something.
I just don't know what that something is yet :)

You are soooooo much more than your day job! Everyone is. All this sounds very familiar to me, I think we all have those doubts when we think of a new project or way of sharing with people. The trick is to do as you have done, and to not let those doubts stop you from doing it anyway :-) I love the sound of a toy camera course or newsletter, or whatever you decide on - I bet there are so many people who read here and look at your lovely photos and would love to have a go but need some tips and guidance first. It's a great idea. x

i love your blog. i'm the same way with the more photos and the less writing. i feel that if i put my photos up, at least it's something. right? i also totally feel sad when i don't get any comments. i try to remember that i'm just a baby blog with 10 followers, but still, it hurts. i'm looking forward to whatever changes you have in store. :)

Love everything you've been brave enough to push publish to so far.
Your photos are both awe inspiring and just plain inspirational although, I must admit, this is the first time I've read a post so honest and heartfelt in a while from you and I have loved that too.

So much of what you share is relatable and I think that's what makes you so special - your ability to be both relatable and approachable.

I too would love to be part of a toy camera course especially one run by you.
Have faith in yourself, be brave and know there'll always be a virtual crowd cheering you on round here :)

Best of Luck - Now go for it! xo

Oh darling. You're so beautiful -- inside and out. I'm so proud of everything that you're doing! Don't be discouraged. For one... right now is just a really low blogging interaction season... for all of us. Commentors are just low. But we're reading. Oh I promise you we're reading. :) You're so amazing... and I will try to make a much more conscious effort to comment. <3
Love you beautiful!

Oh Rhianne, I know how you feel! And I'm sorry to say I haven't commented in a while. I read your blog often, and I adore you, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to say more about the wonderful things you write (and the gorgeous photos you post).

xoxo

I can totally relate to the no comments issue even though I'm such a small blog in comparison. I never blogged to get followers. I was printing so many photos and sticking them in scrap books which was nice but getting a bit too much and also I was getting behind I have so many piles of photos. I thought a blog would be a nice diary just for me. But suddenly I was getting a couple of comments here and there and lots of hits. However when one post gets so few hits I punish myself for being so boring! It doesn't take long to shake myself out of it and go back to what I did this for. In your case though, you are so good at the blogging, there is more of you to give your plans sound great I'm sure people will do your e courses!

You're one of my favorite bloggers, you have such good posts and you're so positive towards your readers! it truly is a delight reading, i hope you never stop blogging! My blog on the other hand is a little "all over the place", but that's because i mostly just blog for me. And thank you rhianne for following my blog for so long! i appreciate it!

You do know how to blog, & you do it well lady! In general lack of comments don't bother me because I know that a lot of real people including ones I know in real life are reading & that in itself makes me quite happy.
But comments do make me smile. I say go for an ebook & see how it goes.
And please don't be so hard on yourself. You are quite fantastic & I hope you know it. <3

I loved reading this post, so thank you for hitting publish. I know how flippin' scary that can be sometimes!

First up - YES to photography tips! YES to a toy camera challenge/e book (I would be so IN!).

Okay, so I can totally relate to the lack of comments disappointment. Sometimes it can feel like you pour your heart and soul and time and energy in to a post and then feel like your talking to a brick wall. But when that happens I remember a few things - people are SUPER busy (I know there are times when I'm neglectful of some of my most favourite wonderful bloggy friends); as much I love the connecting and interaction side of it, really my blog is for me and I'd do it even if no one read it; and lastly that you'd be surprised at how many lurkers probably to read your posts, and think about them, and cherish them.

And I can completely relate to the lack of confidence thing to. I'm also at a point where I have that feeling of wanting to do something - my head is full of half formed ideas but I'm just not sure how to make them happen. And I'm not sure that if I make them happen will anyone be interested? Sigh. I think the thing to do is just keep plugging away, do something (anything!) and see what eventuates...
