Grasmere Part 1

Of all the places that we visited over Mum's birthday weekend, Grasmere was my favourite. It was quaint and lovely, exactly what you would expect from the Lake District, with gorgeous little cottages, stone walls and the most amazing gingerbread I've ever eaten.
(Oh how I looove gingerbread)

I actually didn't realise that Grasmere was also the home of William Wordsworth until we got to the church and walked around to see the grave...which is funny as the main reason that the village is so popular is because of him, but honestly I think it would be just as popular anyway, it is such a delightful little place.

The Herdy Shop

Grasmere is also home to a Herdy shop, which I personally found more exciting - I love that little sheep face - though the photo isn't that great, but I don't care. I kind of wish I'd bought some of these now... and some mugs, maybe a tea towel... I want it all!

  1. What great photos, all of them are just fabulous!

I went to Grasmere last year and I loved it too! OMG the gingerbread (I think they put crack cocaine in it, you know) - I would drive back there right now in my slippers just to have another slice! http://www.angiemuldowney.co.uk/2011/10/grasmere-gingerbread/

(And that sheepy shop was very cool, wasn't it).

  2. The romanticism of this place doesn't surprise, as you say Wordsworth has lived here once. These shots are stunning! Maybe because of the beautiful surroundings, but you also did an excellent job with the lomography film. I've used that one with very varying results at times...

By the way: thanks for stopping by!

  3. I loved Grasmere! One of my literature professors takes a group of students to the UK and Ireland every other year, and usually the group stays in Grasmere when they stop in the Lake District. However, when I went, we stayed in Ambleside, which was just as LOVELY! I'm not one for the Romantics, but I definitely can see why they were inspired! My husband and I hope to go back to the Lake District next summer and stay in a holiday cottage for a few weeks. :) Glad you enjoyed this delicious little town!

    1. I'm not one for the Romantics either which is probably why I didn't realise about Wordsworth lol but I can see the inspiration too. I checked and we drove through Ambleside and it was lovely, I think if we'd have more time we would have visited more places definitely. A cottage sounds perfect, I hope you have a great time when you go :)
