Remembrance Day

Last year I shared In Flanders Field by John McCrae in Remembrance, however this year I have dug out my photos from ten years ago(!) from a visit to Ypres in Belgium with my High School when I was 15.

I'm sure I've mentioned somewhere (perhaps here) that I always used to use 35mm film until I went to university - and here are some of the photos from my Dad's old Canon 35mm camera that I borrowed just for the trip. I remember I used one film a day which goes to show things haven't really changed that much in 10 years...

At 15, I didn't really understand the scale of lives that were sacrificed during the World Wars, both soldiers and civilians, and I remember being completely overwhelmed with sorrow at each cemetory and museum we visited.

Having visited Auschwitz this year - I am still overwhlemed with sorrow yet I was also reminded that it is so important to learn from history and to remember.

Krakow - The Main Square

The first highlight of Krakow that we really explored was the main square in the Old Town.

It was such a pleasure walking around the square, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the people watching - there was always something going on.

Krakow - The Apartment...

With so many photos to share with you, I didn't really know where to start with blogging about Krakow, but I decided to start where we started - the apartment!

Finding this apartment was the best thing that happened to us for this holiday - it was cheap, massive and so central to Krakow - situated bang in the middle of the Old Town and Kazimierz - the Jewish area of the city. It was the perfect mixture of old character with modern features and despite the 6 flights of stairs to get to our floor, it was the perfect base to start and return to every day.

The apartment was full of lovely features like vintage suitcases and amazing chandeliers which completely enhanced our stay there!

My favouite part though was the guest book that all the previous guests had written in with suggestions for restaurants, bars, days out, which buses to catch etc... a wonderful read for when you have no idea where to start!

I want to go back to Edinburgh!

Remember way back in March when we went to Edinburgh?

It seems like such a long time ago now... but these beautiful holgas sent from the lovely Wendy to the equally lovely Marisa (honestly, I adore them both) has made me want to go straight back there... its really not that far from Leeds...

I love Edinburgh, holgas, the photoswap and all my photoswappers, hurray!!

More Berwick photos...

I haven't really taken many photos lately, except for the swap ones and I'm a little sad to say that most of my cameras have been packed in a box as we get ready for the big move in about a month (house permitting... crossing fingers) but I do have some more Diana mini's from Berwick that I never got round to posting.

I almost want to celebrate my Diana Mini now... I do love it!

Berwick Barracks...

My favourite part of Berwick (other than the beach of course) was the History of the Town and Berwick Barracks Museum the perfect place to learn about it.

I really love visiting new places and learning new things!

Work is rubbish. Wisdom teeth are rubbish... and so are antibiotics.

(they really taste bad, ick)

However, fuji's to remind you of a lovely weekend are good...

...which is good.

We love Berwick!

We're back and we are well rested (honestly, so relaxed right now!) A massive thank you to my GeeGee for guest posting whilst we were away - how cute were the lambs in her last post?!

I'm beginning to think that Thomas and I have a weakness for coastal towns in England - Berwick is the northernmost town town in England - with its beautiful coastline, interesting history and amazing architectural features. I easily managed take all 50 photos with the half frame setting on the Diana, hurray!

Unlike Scarborough the coast of Berwich was rugged, with isolated bays scattered between patterns of volcanic rock however it really suited the town and the atmosphere. We want to go back already!

Most of these photos were taken at the Botanic Gardens and I love how the colours turned out in the sunshine!
