10 things you might not know about me...

Photo22_18A
{LC-A, Kodak Portra NC 160 film}

I've been slowly reading through Susannah Conway's book, This I Know, savouring it, thinking over it and really, really enjoying it. This I Know is not a book to be rushed.

In one part of her book Susanah talks about blogging and sets a little challenge to share 10 things about yourself that people don't know, so I decided to just do it. I've been so distracted these past couple of weeks that I haven't felt as in touch with the blogging community as I would like to be, so maybe you could share something about yourself too below? Let's reconnect!

Here goes...

1. I've been in a relationship now for nearly 10 years and it still amazes me.

2. I'm an extrovert. I've never thought about it seriously before but whilst reading Angie's post it just made sense that I was, I talk a lot and to anyone and I am so easily distracted (heh). In many ways its nice to know that I'm not completely crazy but I also know that it doesn't really define me, it just explains (a lot of) the things that I've had to learn to work around and also why I totally don't get some people.

3. I thought that when my little sister got married I would be less worried about her, it turns out that now I just have a little brother (in law) to worry about too.
(Has anyone read the part in Susannah's book about being a big sister? I cried.)

4. In writing that point above, I should probably write that I worry too much.
 and...some nights I'm so worried/anxious I can't sleep.

5. I am the pickiest person when it comes to music, Thomas has almost given up recommending music for me - though I personally think it is this that kept him on his toes for the past 10 years, hehe.

6. We watch a lot of TV and films - there is so much good TV at the moment, we're currently catching up on Dexter, Boardwalk Empire, Parks and Recreation and we've just finished watching the whole of Seinfeld for the second time through and about to start again.

7. I loooove classic old films and we've been slowly watching more and more, I've only just seen Casablanca but it was so good - next on our list is To Kill a Mockingbird and I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

8. The healthier you eat, the harder it seems to lose weight.... I'm 100% sure that my body is in super suvival mode and stores any and all food that I eat, just in case... It is incredibly frustrating and slow for me to feel any progress when I'm trying to be good and although I'm not unhappy with how I look, I do want to be trimmer, sometimes I just wish I didn't have to watch every single thing that I eat, all the time... and that sugar free things actually tasted nice.

9. Putting my new site together has made it harder for me to blog here at the moment - I think my heart has already moved home, even if its not official yet... its also made me realise how much I love blogging and how much I've done with it in the past three years. I've seen posts about blogging changing a lot and it has... but I've changed too and I still want to be here and I hope that you do too :)

10. One of my favourite things is hanging the washing out in the garden. Isn't that sad. But it means that one, I have a garden(!) and two, its not raining and even more, its sunny.
Thomas laughed at me for putting this photo up in our house but I really like it as it reminds me of the little things to be grateful for...

p.s. the photo is totally unrelated, but I like it :)

A rather amazing portrait...

{A portrait of me by the amazingly talented and lovely Caitlin from Hue and Hum

Last month, my blog friend Caitlin (who I first blogged about here featuring her amazing art) from Hue and Hum posted about accepting portrait orders and I jumped at the chance to have one of me with one of my cameras...

And here is the result. I just adore it. I love the yellow camera, all the stripes, the cute shoes and my usual outfit of a cardigan and jeans, woohoo!!

See more of Caitlin's portraits here, she is one seriously talented lady!!!

p.s. you might notice the original portrait that Caitlin has that I have an earring, I edited it out as I don't have my ears pierced... sorry Caitlin :)

Happy Birthday to my lickle Sis...

Happy birthday Mikela!!!

You complained that there wasn't enough photos of you, so here you are :)

I love you, even if you are taller than me now...

Have a wonderful day!

This photo cracks me up - I was obviously a confused witch or ghost...
and you can just see Mikela's face, hahaha.
We were cool.

Edit: Mikela insist's we are both still cool.
I think not quite as cool as this though :)

What Polaroids Were Made For...

Yesterday my friend Diana posted a polaroid of herself from when she was little and it reminded me that I had found one of me whilst hunting through some old family photos earlier in the year that I hadn't got around to posting.
Polaroid - Little Me
As you can see both Diana and I used to rock the bowl-styled haircut with white tights look in the mid 80's.

A little celebration with a dash of honesty...

So far this week has sucked.
After such an amazing weekend, it seems even worse than it actually is in comparison.

Mostly I've been disappointed... and there's nothing you can do about being disappointed in something. It's beyond your control and all you can really do is react to a situation... and this week I've been so surprised, I haven't really reacted well (especially with unexpected ankle pain too). Sometimes I wonder if I set my expectations too high... but right now, I think that my expectations are just right and that if I'm disappointed then perhaps there is a good reason for it.

Anyway, I'm trying to write this post about how the week may be turning around... and how
somehow my little blog manages to turn my frown upside down
(admittedly I have failed slightly at this and just ranted... oops. it feels good though haha)

This month is my little blogs 2nd birthday.
Can you believe that? I'm pretty sure it's first birthday was only yesterday... but there you go. Time flies when you're having fun.
and....
this morning I woke up to 600 followers through blogger!!

600 you guys!!! I still can't believe it - my faith in myself has just burst through the roof. It astounds me that so many people have stuck around and you still want to read along...

For some reason I really struggled with 500 - I hit a solid wall of terror. Alot of my favourite blogs when I started (years ago now haha) had around 500 followers, I thought perhaps it was a fluke... and people would start to drop away, bored of photos and my small obsession with cameras. There was no way my blog was as good as my favourite blogs...

But now, perhaps I'm starting to believe it is - that my photos are good enough, that my life is worth sharing... it's funny how it can take 2 years, some cameras, 600 amazing strangers and alot of worrying to realise something like that.

I don't have any massive giveaways planned to celebrate or anything really to offer you - I'm a little too unorganised for that... (that and I outdid myself with Diana mini week!) so really I'm just writing this post to say thank you.

Thank you for reading, thank you for sticking through the good and the bad, thank you for your comments, emails, messages, tweets etc... thank you for supporting me and in turn, my blog and shop... and thank you for being you.

Happy Wednesday lovelies! The week can only get better now right??

It's in the bag... blog crawl.

A Hasty Life

You've probably seen some other bloggers taking part in Ashley from 'A Hasty Life' It's in the bag blog crawl.... it's been really fun reading the previous posts so far!
(see here for everyone taking part, its quite epic...)

I've always meant to do one of these posts but as I started I remembered that my bag isn't really that glam and thats prob why I haven't actually done one before, haha, but here goes anyway...

First up - the bag. I got this Nica bag for christmas a couple of years ago from Thomas and I use it everyday, I love it. Especially the flower. I have a complete weakness for Nica bags, I'll have one in each colour one day!!!

Next... my stuff. I have so much stuff... I have become my Mum, haha.

1. Vaseline (1 of 2, not sure how that happened)
2. House keys - I love my practical torch keyring!
3. Hair ties and pins... they are everywhere!
4. YELLOW ipod (love!) and my new amazing headphones.
5. Another torch - I like to be practical.
6. My fave colourful umbrella I've had for ages now, it always cheers me up in the rain
(and it rains alot here, haha)
7. Benefit erase paste, I wear it everyday. It is amazing.
8. Cute mirror from my parents :)
9. Rimmel Mascara, I wear it everyday. It is amazing.
10. Work keys and bottle opener key with my cute diana keyring.
11. Hand gel.
12. Another vaseline, another (Kath Kidson, cute) mirror and some headache tablets.
13. USB sticks - where all my photos live.
14. My Matthew Williamson purse, I love it, how my sister found it when it was sold out everywhere else is beyond me :)
15. Air mail stickers (for sending etsy things, hehe)
16. Fuji Instax Minis - these are also everywhere lol.
17. Important things like railcards and post its!
18. Hair brush - should really be with number 3, oops.
19. Phone cable - as good as the camera is - it dies fairly quickly now...
20. My fave scarf.
21. Healthy snacks!

How was that? Not too boring I hope...

Don't forget to visit A Hasty Life to see the list of other bloggers involved and perhaps visit a blog you haven't seen before (I'm heading over to A Bloggable Life tomorrow!)

p.s. I'm going home tomorrow to surprise my Nanna on her bday (shes 70!) but I do hope to post something... it will prob end up being pictures of Harry haha.

#Reverb10 Part 1

I've seen a number of bloggers taking part in Reverb10- most noticibly the lovely Susannah Conway - and after reading through people's posts and answering the questions in my head, I've decided to get it all on here...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 - One Word.
Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell)
Honestly - this year has been overwhelming... mostly in a great way - but sometimes in a bad. I feel like I've been constantly catching up with myself, on here and with everything else. I actually can't believe its December already, let alone nearly Christmas.
Next year, I hope I feel more organised, I don't mind being overwhelmed so much but feeling unorganised and behind with everything is really starting to bug me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

2 – Writing.

What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Author: Leo Babauta)

Go to work... does that count? Everyone has too right? I try not to let it stop me writing a post everyday though - whether I write at home the evening before or during my lunch break...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3 – Moment.
Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). (Author: Ali Edwards)
This year has been full of some amazing moments to be honest - one of my best friends got married and my sister got engaged and I've really enjoyed being a part of those - but I think the moment I felt the most alive was standing at the top of Malham Cove - the sun was shining, the views were amazing, I was with Thomas, I had my holga with me and it was wonderful.
I really need to share more photos from that day actually - Helga did me proud!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

4 – Wonder.

How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year? (Author: Jeffrey Davis)

This year we travelled! It's been amazing, we've been to places we've never been before - Scotland and Poland! However the wonder I've felt in travelling this year has actually been in how beautiful England really is... Berwick, Malham, Wells... even Kirkstall Abbey, which is right on my door step. We really are so lucky to live in Leeds and Thomas and I are constantly amazed by how perfect it is for us both.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5 – Let Go.
What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why? (Author: Alice Bradley)
I've been trying to let go of my anxiety this year... Moving house has really helped me feel better about things and actually get some sleep. I still haven't got complete confidence in my blog, or even my blogging abilities, however within this month, I think I've got my blogging mojo back and I've come to accept that 500 isn't quite that scary a number after all...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

6 – Make.

What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it? (Author: Gretchen Rubin)

The last thing that I made was a Halloween wreath - it was quite amazing, I used an old wire coat hanger and some purple, orange and black tissue paper. I wish I had got some tissue paper to make a christmas one as well... and I would love to make christmas cards again next year. Perhaps I should start planning that now?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7 – Community.
Where have you discovered community, online or otherwise, in 2010? What community would you like to join, create or more deeply connect with in 2011? (Author: Cali Harris)
I was looking through some of my posts from last year and amazingly - I have known some bloggers now for over a year - how amazing is that? And I definitely feel like they are true friends. I've been excited about weddings (eeeee), heartbroken about loss, inspired by creativity, had the best emailing buddies and really enjoyed getting to know other bloggers.
I also joined fpoe this year and what an amazing group of ladies they are!
I hope to continue to within this blog community - to continue growing friendships, perhaps meet new people and to really enjoy what the community has to offer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

8 – Beautifully different.

Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful. (Author: Karen Walrond)

Oh I love this one. I really hope this blog is different and lights people up - it brightens my day - every day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9 – Party.
What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)
K and P's wedding, definitely. Sharing in something like that with your best friends is something that is such a pleasure and an honour and seeing how happy they are now makes the whole day seem even more special :) I can't wait to see them in a couple of weeks now, hurray!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

10 – Wisdom.

What was the wisest decision you made this year, and how did it play out? (Author: Susannah Conway)

This is quite a recent decision - in fact only a couple of days - but I think its quite wise... I hope it plays out well.

I've decided to stop worrying about why people are visiting my blog and if it really is any good - and focus on keeping it consistant and making it better! Honestly I have no idea why people keep reading my blog and worrying about doing something wrong (which is worrying when you're not sure what you did right...) and comparing myself to other bloggers is not healthy - instead I'm going to focus on the fact that I love blogging - I love taking photos, I love reading and leaving comments and I love being creative... I guess this is related to letting go of anxiety - and deciding that I've had enough and that I need to make changes myself is definitely a wise decision.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For more information on Reverb 10 - see here. There are 31 prompts in total, I have definitely enjoyed this section, I'm looking forward to the next 21.
The Versatile Blogger award!
Last week, the lovely Maddy (who loves Rock Band as much as I do, Hurray!) tagged me with The Versatile Blogger award, so I decided to share the love!
{ I try not to tag someone more than once with awards - so if you're new here, check out my awards tag to see the other 45 amazing bloggers that I have tagged in the past - they all deserve this award too! }
The rules dictate I have to share 7 things about myself, so here goes nothin':
(I totally stole Maddy's idea of putting the list on a photo...)
& now I get to share the award with 7 lovely lovely bloggers!
and... Bria
The rules are as follows:
1. thank and link back to who gave you the award
2. share 7 things about you!
3. pass it along to 7 blogs you've recently discovered and enjoy.
4. leave your recipients a note, telling them about the reward.
That was fun for a Friday :)
I'm honestly so glad this week is nearly over and we're seeing Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem tomorrow. I am excited. And I have Monday off work, woohooo!!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Breaking down that brick wall...
I'm finally getting around to sorting out my blog tags and reacquainting myself with my blog - it's been so fun going through my old posts.
I thought I would share a few of my favourites with you... I like the idea of getting to know people better so we might as well start with you getting to know me better :)
(the post that pretty much converted me to loving yellow...)
(and today, I feel like this too...)
I think that will do for now don't you?
I'm still completely overwhelmed that alot of these posts are over a year old - where has the time gone? Does time move differently when you hit 25 (faster...that is...)?
p.s. this has helped with the bloggers block a little, I like my blog lol...
p.s.s. Why was I so unorganised with my tags?!?!
You feel the same sometimes too right?
Hey! This is me...
and ultimately, this blog is me!
It's my little world.
I was walking to work this morning and as I got to the front door, my favourite boss (yeah I have favourites...) who was also approaching the door, said 'Hey Rhianne' and... I completely blanked him - I was listening to my ipod - I was thinking about this post - I was looking at the floor so I didn't slip on the insanely slippery slabs that Yorkshire has (is that just a Yorkshire thing? I think so...) I was in my own little world.
As I realised he was there, I looked up (jumped) and said 'Hey! Sorry, I was in my own little world' and he said smiling.
'That's alright, we should all have our own little worlds...'
Gah! Most perfect response ever?! And I believe him, we should!
Anyway, the point of this now rather wordy post (sorry) is that really I haven't been honest in my little world... and I think thats why I've been struggling to post...
So here is a little honesty...
Approaching 500+ followers absolutely terrifies me!
(theres more of you through reader, eep!)
I wrote on Nicole's anonymous post recently about how I felt... and thinking about it, I don't know why I shouldn't share it on here - so here goes...
"I constantly worry about my blog, it's the only thing keeping me sane at the moment and the only thing I really put alot of effort into (my job sucks) But I worry that people will find me boring or that they think I'm just copying someone else... Having more readers has made me worry about it even more, I get upset if I lose followers and I'm sad that I don't get more comments then I did when I had less people read it...I know I shouldn't be bothered and that my blog is for me (and it is, I love it) but putting something out there in the internet world that you truly love, something that balances out all the negativity in your life is pretty scary... I wish it didn't bother me but I love reading other peoples blogs and I guess I just want people to enjoy mine as much as I enjoy theirs... "
I should probably also say that my job doesn't suck that much - I was having a very bad work day... I quite enjoy it when it's a good day.
This isn't about being a 'popular' blog or statistics - in fact I haven't checked my stats properly since I stopped my sponsors - its been a huge relief to me not to have to worry about them. It's about putting your world out there and making connections. Right now I feel a little like I'm on a podium in front of a massive 500 strong brick wall and I don't want that - I want to be in a 500 strong crowd, mingling, saying hi...
When I first started getting followers I used to say hi to each one - it was fun, I got to see people's blogs and share them with everyone else, I got to make a connection and say "Hi, I'm so glad you're here!" but honestly, a few other people started to do that too and it didn't seem as personal to me anymore - then I hit 200 and completely lost track of everyone - keeping track of 200 people is hard... also the blogger followers thing is rubbish - there's not always a link to blogs and new people don't always show up when I click on them... why isn't there a nice list somewhere of who follows you so I can just say hi?! Bah!
I read constantly about people saying that your blog should be for you and this blog is for me - but now it's also for you - and I don't think there is anything wrong with that - I'm not ashamed to be a little sad that people stop following my blog - they essentially stop being in my little world and I'm sad they didn't want to stay... I'm not ashamed that I want more people to comment... and I don't think there should be a stigma about wanting people to enjoy your blog and make a connection with you.
Essentially this post comes down to why I blog and where I want to go with my blog...
I started my blog because I was lonely and bored and I really don't cope very well with either of those two things... the posts stop me from being bored and the comments stop me from being lonely... I want comments because I want to talk to people - I want to comment back, I want to visit people's blogs - I want to have the 'conversation' that I hear so many pro bloggers talk about...
and as for where I want to go with my blog - I don't want to go anywhere - I love it how it is - if anything I need to find myself again and make sure it stays true to me and what I love...
it is my own little world afterall...
If you've read this all, thank you - and if you don't leave a comment (I hate the word lurker) that's fine - I can imagine you're not here to hear me emotionally splurge all over my blog - but if you want to just say hi - make a connection - then please do.
I truly do appreciate everyone who reads my blog - I just think we should get to know each other a bit better, don't you?
p.s It's the 1st of Oct and I should be featuring an etsy shop right now but I needed to get this out... I'll post it on Monday instead...
p.p.s. Happy weekend :)
p.p.p.s. I finally got a pic of me as a bridesmaid on here, haha
Little letters...
{Photo taken in Scarborough with my Yashica Autofocus, I heart that camera}
Dear little blog,
Its odd to think that when we started we were both completely different. It's just a shame I'm stuck in the same job and it frustrates me. But you are still my haven and even though I'm feeling a little lost, I am going to pull it together and you will be my happy place again.
Dear Sunshine,
You make me happy but where is the warmth?
I want to wear my shorts (yes, I have shorts!!) and finally wear my yellow tights.
Dear poloroid camera,
After all the letters and the waiting - I'm afraid that we don't really get on as well as I had hoped... part of me is a little sad but the other is really happy that I seem to have found my medium in 35mm film and that I can enjoy looking at other peoples polaroids appreciating how incredible their work really is!
Dear fuji instax,
Don't worry I still adore you... we get along just fine.
Dear buses,
You seem to be running on time recently, I can't decide whether to be happy or suspicious.
Dear cookies,
It seems out of all the sugary foods that I miss you the most.
I'm worried now though that the next one I have won't live up to my expectations....
Dear negativity,
You creep up on me when I least expect it and you are starting to annoy me.
Dear self imposed blog rules,
I might start ignoring some of you soon, just to see what happens!
Dear moleskines,
All of a sudden I want to write and draw in you...
I just need to buy one first.
Do they come in yellow?!
Always a bridesmaid...
First I'm going to pretend that it is last Wednesday - the 24th - and that I am actually on time with this post (oops!) I'm also going to pretend that I have an extra week to make the rest of the 80 favour boxes that I have slowly been working on...
Anyway, here I am the second time I was a bridemaid to my other aunt and uncle.
I still don't know what to make of this one - I know that I didn't like my hair being crimped though... and I was definitely not as cute at 9 as I was at 3 :)
I can't wait to share my next bridesmaid picture with you this time next month!! Hurray!
p.s. A couple of people asked on Friday what a hen party was - I think in the US you call it a bachelorette party :) only a couple of days to go!
Little letters...
Cute Mimi the Pug heart card by Cuore
Dear Sugar,
It's been over two weeks now without you (or processed foods) in our diet now and I'll be honest, I do miss brownies and cookies... however I love feeling healthy, sleeping better, eating more fruit and vegetables and the fact that the bags under my eyes are not as dark anymore.
(woo, I still can't believe that benefit)
Dear mixed seeds,
You are my new favourite snack... yum.
Dear polaroid camera,
I'm still engaged in the poloroid film debate in my head but I promise I'll let you know the outcome when I know.
Dear followers....
Hi!! Yeay that you're here, you are awesome!
Dear AutoCAD,
Stop crashing.
(please...)
Dear Seychelles Footwear,
Please deliver to England...
(without costing me a fortune)
Dear Spring,
Hurry up, I want to go out and take photos in the sunshine!
Dear future pug,
I'm working on convincing Boyfriend that you are seriously cute and we should get you
(he's working on us buying a kitten still... he'll probably win...)
Dear future,
Once again, I am very excited about what you may hold...
I can't wait for the rest of this year!
Gem Award Questions and Answers!
Yeay! So here are the questions and answers from last weeks Gem Award from Cassie (finally!)
Sara asked me:
How much do you like chocolate?
I loooovee chocolate so so much! Most people who know me don't ask what I'm having for dessert or what type of cake I would prefer - if there is a chocolate choice then I am having it! My love for chocolate is only limited to milk chocolate though (preferably Cadbury's please) - I really don't like white or dark chocolate.
and what is your favourite word?
My favourite word is lovely. You've probably seen me using it alot on here and it got to the point of where every comment I wrote had it in there somewhere - I had to stop myself from writing it. I love the sound of it and I love the meaning of it!
Cassie asked me:
Which beach in the UK is your favourite and why?
I would have to say Wells-Next-The-Sea (see numerous posts) Not only do I have fond memories of there as a child (mainly the sweet shop and the park) but I have great memories of there as an adult as well (mainly the sweet shop and the park!) and Harry loves it too, it was the first beach we took him on and he had far too much fun!
Saskia asked me:
What would your perfect day in London be?
Now this is quite hard for me to answer - I have two views of London - one as a tourist and one as a resident. Living there we used to love going to the Holloway Market on a Saturday (look for the bag stall! I brought so many during the year we were there.) Then heading to Wood Green (the nearest Cineworld) to go watch a film before going to the best Italian restaurant in Finsbury Park for dinner. I sometimes really miss our little studio so much.
My perfect day as a tourist though would involve breakfast, lunch and dinner at amazing restaurants (there are so many to choose from), a trip to Harrods just to look around and get some macaroons, a walk along the Thames, a look around the Tate Modern and a few hours in Covent Garden - I adore Covent Garden! Preferably it would be at christmas where the lights look amazing and the atmosphere is like nowhere else in the world. I miss London!!
and where would your dream place to live be?
By the beach in a little cottage with a garden and some dogs.
(Short and sweet)
Molly asked me:
What is the typical day in the life of Rhianne?
I apologise in advance Molly as my typical day is really quite dull. I always oversleep, I am so rubbish at getting up, then I get ready for work and get the bus to work (fun). I then spend most of my day sat at a desk either doing work or reading/writing blogs. I get the bus home and finally get to see Boyfriend (the highlight of my day!) we then make dinner together and catch up on TV or play on the Xbox or watch a movie. Weekdays are so monotenous aren't they? We have more fun at the weekends I promise!
Diana asked me:
Why did you get started in photography and shooting film?
I have always loved film photography. The first camera I ever used as a child was a 35mm camera - the first camera I loved was a 35mm camera. I have never had a digital camera that I have loved. I got a small Kodak one for university which I dropped in my second year and never got round to replacing and even now I borrow my Boyfriend's or use my phone (which admittedly does have a good camera) if I need to take a photo.
For some reason digital never took off for me - it was too easy to take loads of pictures of nothing - too easy to put them on my computer and forget about them. I never held them in my hands after taking them, I never waited excitedly for them to develop and I felt the urge to pose, check and retake a digital photo when I wasn't happy with it ruined the spontaneity of photography, especially when out with friends or visiting somewhere new.
Falling back into using 35mm film was an accident really... even though I knew I wanted to do something different, something just for me, I didn't plan on it being photography and I think if I hadn't started this blog then I never would have brought my holga camera (or any of the others) Taking photographs with film felt a bit like coming home, almost like the years I spent doing painting and drawing at college or design at University were mearly a distraction as I fumbled through life trying to find what I loved doing the most.
I hope that these you enjoyed these answers and that they made sense! I'm going to pass this award onto Marisa (who tagged me with a music tag which I haven't done yet, sorry!), her bestie and always lovely Micaela and Callie from The Magical Bean*! 6 months!!
I know, I know its a Saturday but... today is not just any old Saturday - today it is 6 months until I am a bridemaid at one of my best friends wedding!! I am so unbelievably excited!
I have been really rubbish at providing details about the wedding every month - mainly because I honestly don't know that many but the lovely bride is coming to visit us in two weeks (I can't wait) so hopefully I should know more soon, yeay!
Anyway to celebrate this month I have dug deeply into the box of photos that resides on my parents wardrobe to find a picture of the first time I was a bridemaid!!
How cute and very 80's! I was 3 years old and it was for my Aunt's wedding (who I adore still) Check out the fringe - I wish my hair would sit like that now!
Anyway, Hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday - I'm going to try and restrain myself from sending the blushing bride too many overexcited text messages :)
Who I am...
Inspired by these two lovely ladies: Sara and Sanchez
(please check out their posts - they really are beautiful)
I am 24 but sometimes I feel an awful lot older.
I still get asked for ID though which annoys me.
I am a daughter and a big sister...
no matter how far away I live from my family.
I am in love...
I would not be who I am without him.
I am technically an Interior Designer
but I haven't designed anything properly in over a year
I try not to think about it...
I am easily excited and short
I like both of these things about me.
I am impatient.
I want to travel, have a garden and get a kitten now.
I am not sure what I want to do in the future.
I am looking forward to it though.
I am happy.
Even when I am sad.
p.s. Also, I am overwhelmed by the amount of people reading my little blog - Hi to Judy, Janis, Christie, Buhdoop, Buzzybee68, Kimberly, Eadaoin and B is for Brown who mysteriously turned up over night!
(those without links if you have a blog then let me know)
p.p.s Yup the picture is of me sinking in the sand :)
Things I've learnt from blogs this week (and last week...)
Well, its been a funny two weeks so I thought I would combine them into one post - I didn't really get a chance to read many other blogs whilst I was on holiday...
  1. Chalk board walls are awesome! I love the drawing of Eve from Wall-E in the picture*
  2. Making an Illustrated version of yourself is fun! (check me out below!)
  3. The singing dog in Leeds is called Bess - I'm so happy to know that... yeay!!
  4. There might be something better than yellow - yellow stripes! Happy sigh...
  5. Everything is prettier in French... I already knew that, but I'm glad someone else think the same.
* According to her Twitter Naomi (of rockstar diaries of course) is painting her kitchen with chalk board paint! How does this girl seem to be so ahead of me?!
p.s. I don't actually have these dogs - but maybe one day :)
